Like most people, I want a better community, a better state, a better country, and a better world. I want less crime, less violence, less hatred, less war, and less poverty; I especially want abortions to be a thing of the past. I used to think electing the right President, having the right men and women in Congress, and seeing the right judges on the Supreme Court were the best ways for these dreams to come true. I’ve changed my mind.

My Political Position

Here is my political position: “Jesus is King!” Not President, but King. For the record, I absolutely would NOT vote for Jesus for President. He is already King of kings and Lord of lords, I am quite certain He would not want a demotion to President of the United States.

In the past, I have failed to realize that “Christ” is a very political title. Saying Jesus is the “Christ,” is to say God has anointed His Son to be the supreme Ruler of the world. It doesn’t get more political than that. So when I say, “Jesus is King” I truly mean that is my political position.

His Political Agenda

Jesus has a plan to change the world. His plan cannot fail. His plan is called, “the Good News” (gospel). Here’s the gist of it:

  • By virtue of who He is and what He has done, Jesus is King.
  • His kingdom is already here and in the midst of us.
  • All people are welcome in His kingdom.
  • He makes an agreement (covenant) with all the citizens of His kingdom to love them, protect them, forgive them, and even raise them from the dead.
  • All citizens of His kingdom must give total allegiance to Him and must live according to His instructions for their lives.

By doing this, Jesus is creating a “a holy nation” (1 Peter 2:9), scattered all over the world. Jesus transforms His citizens, filling them with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). He instructs His citizens to do things like:

  • Bless those who persecute them (Romans 12:14)
  • Repay no one evil for evil (Romans 12:17)
  • Never avenge themselves (Romans 12:19)
  • Feed their enemies and give them something to drink (Romans 12:20).

So if everyone in the world adopted Jesus’ Good News, then there would be no more crime, violence, war, poverty, racism, abortion, or even hate. That’s why I’m committed to changing the world through Jesus’ Good News agenda; He has the only plan to totally eradicate evil.

His Political Opponents

But you think that’s naive, don’t you? You’re saying, “Yes Wes, but not everyone will accept this. Not everyone wants to be a Christian.” That’s true. There are people who will continue to lie, kill, steal, and destroy. But Jesus’ political opponents have already lost; they just don’t know it yet.

There is no election for King of kings. Jesus has already won. He is King. Judgement against those who do not submit to His Kingship has already been declared and will be carried out. When He returns, He will return with “mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus” (2 Thessalonians 1:8). We don’t have to worry about those who reject Jesus’ agenda.

Everyone must decide, “Will I bow my knee to Jesus and adopt His agenda of peace and love toward all men or will I rebel and live as if men are still in charge of the world?” Those who refuse to submit to Jesus are no threat; He will deal with them soon enough.

Devoting Myself Fully to His Cause

This is why I want to pour my heart, soul, mind, and strength into Jesus’ plan. I don’t have the time or the energy to be divided in my allegiance. I will commit myself to living by the principles of the New Testament and I will tell the world, Jesus is King. As more and more people obey His Good News, the world will become a better place.

This isn’t wishful thinking, this is reality. The Good News of Jesus’ Kingship has already done far more to transform this world than democracy, the Republican or Democrat parties, or any other political idea man has concocted.

Let me be clear, I am not saying I’ll never vote. What I am saying is that voting is no longer my strategy for making the world a better place. I will not let the political process, a political candidate, or a political party have my heart. I will not attach my hopes and dreams to any of these carnal things.

No matter what happens in this country, Jesus is King and He has already won! Those are my politics.

I love you and God loves you,

Wes McAdams
